Summer wines, TV theme songs, Helsinki Summit Wine, and Other Notes on a Wine Card.

I’ve got some great summer wines for this Friday’s Wine Tasting.  To paraphrase someone – I don’t see why this wouldn’t be a great wine tasting.  Check out the wines later on in this blog.

Speaking of double negatives… I think the perfect wine for the Helsinki Summit would have been a wine that exhibits impeccably peachy, and minty notes. In short, a wine that is impeachminty.  Use whatever words you need to describe a wine, that is my rule.

My son has been on an “Office” binge this summer.  I loved that show and have the theme song on my mind now. Got me to thinking about my favorite theme song shows. My number one theme song is “I Love Lucy.”  That song is ageless and always makes me want to do a little conga dance.  Number two on my list is the theme from “Rockford Files.”  Hearing that song always makes me want to drive around in a Pontiac Firebird.

Some other theme songs that I absolutely adore are the following themes: Taxi, Barney Miller, MASH, Mary Tyler Moore, Cheers, WKRP in Cincinnati, Scrubs, and The Wonder Years. The Wonder Years theme is the amazing rendition by Joe Cocker of “With A Little Help From My Friends.” Do you have any favorites?  Send them to me!

Who knew!? – The composer of “Moon River” – Henry Mancini – also wrote the theme song for “What’s Happening.”

Coming up this Thursday at The Tasting Room is the Backyard BBQ with Winemaker Coby Parker-Garcia.  Coby is one of the most passionate winemakers I have met in the wine business and is one of the top winemakers in California.  The event is sold out! Coby makes wines for Claiborne & Churchill, and is owner and winemaker at El Lugar Wines. I highly recommend his superb Pinot Noirs.

There’s an interesting article in the New York Times that focuses on the notion that people like cheap wines and shouldn’t trust opinions of experts. Eric Asimov – the NY Times wine critic – argues that $15 to $20 bottles of wine are often better values than $10 bottles of wine. Read the excellent article here In Wine and Critics.
