This week I’ll be pouring 4 Rosés in celebration of National Rosé Day which is the second Saturday of June. Check out the lineup of wines at the end of this blog.
June has some weird days that are celebrated including National Old Maids Day (June 4th), National Bubba Day (June 2nd), National Yo Yo Day (June 6th), and National Upsy Daisy Day (June 8th). No kidding, really.
June 4th was National Cheese Day and for those of you who are like me and suffer from lactose intolerance, we would celebrate National Upset Stomach Day on June 5th if there were such a day celebrated or in my case not celebrated.
Even though I’m a huge Steely Dan fan, I got a great education on the band the other night from Deanna C and James W while tasting some wine at The Tasting Room. My favorite SD song is Reeling In The Years with those amazing guitar solos. Other favorites of mine are Pretzel Logic and Fire In The Hole. There are so many songs that stand out though that it’s hard to pick just a few.
Did you know? Steely Dan was named after a dildo in William Burroughs’ “Naked Lunch.”
Did you know? Part II: The song Peg may or may not be a song about coercing an actress into a performing a pornographic scene. Towards the end of the song, there is a voice softly saying “I don’t want to do this.” Who knew?! Click on the link to the song and listen carefully at the 3:16 mark.
Donald Fagen and the late Walter Becker might well have written a song about an article I read this week. The Washington Post article was titled “New report finds no evidence that having sex with robots is healthy.” My sympathy goes out to all you Rosie the Robot fans from The Jetsons cartoon show.
I guess if I were to pour a wine in honor of Steely Dan, I would have to find a grapefruit wine. FM by Steely Dan
Every now and then some people want to smoke in The Tasting Room and I have to politely inform them that no smoking is permitted inside The Tasting Room. They can’t head to Colorado where Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper vetoed a bill that would have allowed licensed marijuana tasting rooms according to an article in the Denver Post. Unless they are wine aficianados, I guess I’ll have to wait a while before Willie Nelson, Snoop Dogg and I sit down and chillax. Toby Keith won’t be there if we’re smoking weed if he keeps to his song I’ll Never Smoke Weed With Willie Again.
My son visited Disneyland over the weekend and it stirred memories of attractions that are no longer around at Disneyland. Attractions that have bit the dust include Country Bear Jamboree, Swiss Family Treehouse, Big Thunder Ranch, and Adventure Through Inner Space presented by Monsanto. Speaking of Monsanto, the company was purchased by the German pharmaceutical and chemicals firm Bayer recently. Bayer is going to drop the Monsanto, a name which has been synonymous with genetically modified food. I am well aware of the number of people who come into the shop looking for organic or biodynamic wines, so this didn’t surprise me at all.
One of my favorite towns in America is Austin, Texas. Keep Austin Weird is the slogan adopted by the Austin Independent Business Alliance. Austin is also a very friendly town and supportive town as evidenced by this video clip Girl at Barton Springs Pool posted by Hannah Waitt on facebook. That’s what I call Texas Friendly!
